    my wish

    pang

Where are you from?
How do you like American food?
I cook Chinese food in my apartment.
You need some American food!
This is a book I want you to read. 我一看:Food in the USA. I’ll cook for you.
我确定他没看过这书,因为导言第二页写着:two-thirds of the articles in this book are authored by cultural anthropologists and American studies scholars.

    crazy morning

George, could you let us stay at your place for a couple of nights?

    The 9 Times Quickie

    1. Hold your hands in front of you with your fingers spread out.
    2. For 9 X 3 bend your third finger down. (9 X 4 would be the fourth finger etc.)
    3. You have 2 fingers in front of the bent finger and 7 after the bent finger
    4. Thus the answer must be 27
    5. This technique works for the 9 times tables up to 10.

December 1, 1955. It all started on a bus. Rosa Parks.

    WELL-BEHAVED WOMEN
    RARELY MAKE HISTORY

The citizens of which country were said to have the natural patience of a people to whom foreign invasion was only too familiar?
    A: Czechoslovakia
    B: France
    C: Egypt

      The answer was A
In his report of 3 September, 1968, Robert Elphick explained that the patience of the Czech people would help them to cope with Russian domination after Soviet and Warsaw Pact troops had invaded their country the previous month.

    Question 2
Which nation was described as "the showpiece of the Eastern Bloc?"
    A: China
    B: East Germany
    C: Russia

      The answer was B
Ben Bradshaw's report of 3 October, 1989 described how East Germany was 10th in the World Bank league of international economies and its citizens had the highest standard of living in the communist world.

    Question 3
Why was a British Embassy advising foreign nationals to gather at the InterContinental Hotel in 1997?
A: So they could cast their votes in an international film festival
B: So they could be interviewed by UK immigration officers
C: So that Marines could evacuate them across a river

      The answer was C
Allan Little was describing the last days of the Mobutu regime in Zaire in his piece from 24 May, 1997. As rebel forces approached the capital, Kinshasa, the British Embassy advised foreign nationals to go to the InterContinental Hotel and wait for the Marines who would organise an evacuation.

    Question 4
Which was the polyglot country in which no language was incomprehensible?
    A: United Kingdom
    B: India
    C: Israel

      The answer was C
In his report of 12 December, 1956, Peter Flinn explained that, after the war with Egypt, Israelis were listening intently to news bulletins in any and every language because there was always someone who could translate what was being said and pass the news on to others.

    Question 5
What efforts were made to cool the train passengers travelling to Allahabad in 1964?
A: They were fanned with palm leaves
B: They were seated close to blocks of ice in tin baths
C: They were able to enjoy state of the art air conditioning

    Question 6
In which war was it considered generally more useful to have efficient, rather than brave, soldiers?
    A: World War II
    B: The Vietnam War
    C: The Four Day War

      The answer was B
Anthony Lawrence said, in his piece of 23 May, 1970, that for US soldiers in Vietnam it was more important to be able to handle the army's highly-sophisticated transport vehicles and guns than to have courage, because most soldiers remained in bases or maintenance areas and did not actually meet the enemy.

    Question 7
Which national leader was said to have made the springtime flower?
    A: Jimmy Carter
    B: Jawaharlal Nehru
    C: Joseph Stalin

      The answer was C

    A: Malayan insurgents
    B: A sacred goat
    C: A violent thunderstorm

      The answer was B
In his piece of 31 August, 1976, Ian McDougall recalled how he had once made a call to London from the Malaya/Thailand border using a jungle telephone while a sacred goat was chewing through its cord.

    Question 9
What was the official reason for the non-appearance of the usual photo-montage of a president's activities on the television news?
A: Because the president was unwell
B: Because he was absent, touring in Europe
    C: For technical reasons

      The answer was C
The explanation was given when the regime of former President Mobutu of Zaire was about to fall to rebel forces, as Allan Little reported in his piece on 24 May, 1997.

What was the correspondent told about in a phone call on 4 July 1976?
A: The fall of the Berlin Wall
    B: The raid on Entebbe
    C: The moon landing

      The answer was B
Clive Small mentioned the call in his report from 30 April, 1980, because he had been reminded of that previous experience when White House staff rang to tell him about the failure of the mission to rescue hostages in Tehran.

I found another human being here!
You are an official American now, you have seen a baseball game.

    N A  (2006-11-14 19:59:03) 谢谢啊
